Arches National Park - Turret Arch in Snow

Arches National Park is located just north of Moab, Utah and is one of my favorite places to photograph. There are more than 2,000 arches in the park, ranging from three feet in width to 306 feet, base to base, at Landscape Arch. The most scenic arch is Delicate Arch, an isolated remnant of a bygone fin, weathered away over centuries of time.

Turret Arch is most always seen in the classic sunrise shot taken looking through the North Window Arch. This image was made because I wanted something a little different than that popular shot. The snow, which rarely occurs in Moab during the winter, gives interest to the composition. It was made for consideration as prospective artwork for the new visitor center. Although it ultimately wasn’t selected for usage, it still is a pleasant scene somewhat different from the summer views encountered at Arches National Park.

This image is from a Fujichrome Velvia, 4x5 inch original transparency.
